A fun — and invaluable! — way to get involved at Cambridgeport and to connect with fellow families is to volunteer to be a ROOM PARENT!
What does a Room Parent do?
- help the teacher find parent volunteers for classroom field trips or projects
- send updates from the principal or CPTO to classroom parents
- send updates about relevant events
- maintain the classroom phone/email list
- in the upper grades, coordinate fundraising for graduation activities
- welcome any new parents to the classroom during the school year
- organize classroom events such as potlucks, bake sales or playground meetups
- reach out to parents about classroom needs throughout the school year — mainly supplies and snacks
- coordinate classroom teacher gifts around the holidays and end of year
Anything else I need to know?
This job can be as big or small as you make it. At the minimum, being a room parent entails one email a month to connect with other families about classroom needs, events and volunteer opportunities. You serve as another voice for the classroom, another point of contact and provide a great way for families to connect with each other and their student’s class.
How do I become a Room Parent?
Ideally, at the beginning of each new school year, we need at least one Room Parents per classroom — it’s great to have two! If you’re interested, send us an email at officers@cambridgeportpto.org
Being a Room Parent is a terrific way to help our teachers meet their goals and to enrich the classroom experience for our children. Sign up today!
